Usernames

Ricardo Updated by Ricardo

Meta introduced business usernames — a feature that lets you claim a unique handle (e.g., @turn.io) that helps your users easily find and connect with you, in addition to your phone number. They are unique and separate from your display name.

Although this feature is still being rolled out in the next few months, you can already reserve your unique business username in Turn.io.

Reserving a username

Simply head to your Turn.io account, open the Settings page on the Profile tab and you’ll see a new area to enter your username. Or just click this link!

Usernames are per number. If you have multiple numbers, each one should have its own unique username.

What should my username be?

You should choose something your users would recognise from your brand. For example, for our Turn.io support line, we chose @turn.io. This is both a name you already know, consistent with our website and with our handle on social media. Here are Meta’s official guidelines:

  • Build brand recognition with a memorable @username.
  • Use a consistent identity across Meta. In most cases, you may be able to claim the same username you use on Facebook or Instagram.
  • Protect your preferred name early. While we reserve some usernames to help businesses claim them, most usernames are first-come, first-served.

Note: If you want to create a username that matches your existing Instagram or Facebook account, you’ll need to link those accounts to WhatsApp. You can link your phone number when claiming the username in Meta Business Suite or WhatsApp Manager, or by accessing your Facebook Page or Instagram account and adding your WhatsApp phone number directly.

Meta has a few rules on what usernames can be. Don’t worry, we’ll tell you in the product as you’re typing if your username is valid or not.

My username has already been taken

Business usernames are global. If you run into the scenario where another business has already reserved your username, you might need to get creative.

If you believe there’s a legitimate trademark infringement, Meta has provided the following escalation channels:

We suggest you do this as soon as possible so that you reserve the right username for you. Reach out if you have any questions or need a hand.
