19 Dec 2023: Triggers in Build

Neelke Stadler Updated by Neelke Stadler

Every chat journey needs to start somewhere. Triggering your stacks are now simpler and more powerful than ever.

We added triggers to Build so that you can easily create a whole chat service in one place — the Build page. You no longer have to trigger stacks using Automations or Threads. Plus, we added time-based triggers so that you can schedule more powerful chat experiences.

What can you do with triggers?

Everything you can do with Automations or Threads, and more! You will find all the triggers you are used to like keywords, contact fields and labels PLUS the following:

  • Time-based triggers, making it possible to schedule messages for the future. You can now set up a weekly message or a notifying someone after a specific event occurred. And much more! We are sure you are going to like it!
  • OR functions. Currently if you set up triggers in Automations or Threads your rules are based on AND but triggers in Build allow for OR functionality.😎

How to set up a trigger?

When you create a new journey on the Build page you will be prompted to define the trigger. If you are familiar with automation and threads you will find triggers in Build intuitive to use.

If you are unsure of your trigger you can click "skip for now" and do this later.

Two ways to add a trigger later

Remember without a trigger people can't enter a specific chat journey!

  1. Use the Set a Trigger button you see on the Canvas
  1. Click the Set a Trigger link in the list view.

Review and refine your trigger

It is very important to define triggers correctly to ensure personalised messaging. Nobody likes messaging that is not relevant and timely to them. Make sure to double check your trigger.

Once you have defined your rule, you will see a review screen. Here you can:

  • Add another rule to refine your target audience. This is recommended to ensure personalised messaging.
  • View how many people matches the trigger definition at that point in time.
The audience matching a specific trigger is subject to time. It is important to remember that depending on when a trigger is evaluated, the audience will change. This is also the power of triggers. A simple example, if you set up birthday messaging then 30 people may match your criteria today, whilst 62 matches it tomorrow.

Building in one place is now much simpler😎

Create and manage your entire chat service on the Build page. No more need for Automations or Threads.
