How to delete a message that a user sent?

You may get messages that are inappropriate, offensive or contain illegal content and you want to delete them.

It is easy to delete any user message from the Turn.io user interface and database:

  1. Step 1: Click on the three dots next to a user message and select Delete message.
  1. Step 2: You will be prompted to confirm the delete action. Click Delete message if this is what you want to do.

The message is now deleted both in the user interface AND in the database. For transparency purposes the content of the message will indicate who deleted it.

Key things to note:

  • The WhatsApp API does not provide the functionality to scrub the message from the user's phone. This means that the content is NOT deleted on the user's phone.
  • The message content is also deleted in the database. It will be recorded that the message was received (i.e. the time it was sent, who it sent it, etc.) but the content will no longer exist. There will be a delete flag that indicates that the message was deleted.
  • Because we keep a record that the message was received it will count towards your messages received numbers in Insights. Similarly the user will count towards active users.
